John M. Berry

The Washington Post

Mr. Berry, one of the most respected economic policy writers in the country, is considered to be a leader among reporters covering the Federal Reserve. In addition to providing regular coverage, he writes a Sunday column, "Basis Points," that provides a wrap-up of the week's Treasuries activities. In 1999, Mr. Berry was a finalist in the "deadline beat-writing" category for a Gerald Loeb award. He joined The Post in 1979 after spending a few years as the national economic correspondent for Time magazine and later as the Washington bureau manager for Forbes.

He is also a frequent contributor to the International Herald-Tribune, and his work has appeared in Fortune, International Economy, Financier, Central Banking and other American and foreign publications.

Berry began his journalism career with his hometown newspaper, the Johnson City (Tenn.) Press-Chronicle, after attending Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., where he was an economics major.
