Mr. Brady has been the face of business news at CBS for 20 years--just part of his almost half-century in business journalism. His stories have been a staple on the "CBS Evening News with Dan Rather," where he covers breaking business news and provides solid features.
He has covered important Wall Street news and also ventured to the heartland of America to cover such issues as how a drought financially affected farmers.
"In TV, your problem is to figure out the visual aspect of a financial story. With something like the (stock market) crash, you've got all those guys screaming and yelling down there. That's great television," he said in the dinner journal commemorating the 50th anniversary of the New York Financial Writers' Association in 1988.
Mr. Brady is a former assistant managing editor of Forbes magazine. While there, he traveled the country with the late Malcolm Forbes to research a cover story about the Army. As a group of generals explained charts to the newsmen, Mr. Brady stood up and said: "We're not here to see this. We're here to see the troops." They spent the next several weeks riding in tanks and planes, and with troops in the field.
Mr. Brady also served as associate editor of Barron's and editor of Dun's Review. He won an Emmy for his reporting on the U.S. recession. He received the Elliott V. Bell Award in 1993.
