Ben Weberman

Besides a distinguished career in business journalism in which he was credited with helping remove the mystery of interest rates and bond markets for the general public, Mr. Weberman has the distinction of mentoring dozens of aspiring business journalists during his more than 40-year career.

He took teaching seriously, and at one point while at the New York Herald Tribune, he spent four mornings a week as an instructor in Corporate Finance at the New York University School of Commerce.

Mr. Weberman began his career in 1951 at the Journal of Commerce before joining the NYHT where he covered corporate and municipal bond and stock issues, corporate profit trends and capital markets and taxes. He eventually advanced to editor there. He then spent a dozen years at The American Banker before becoming economics editor of Forbes in 1976. He wrote his column Capital Markets for Forbes until his death in 1994 at the age of 71.

A graduate of City College of New York, Mr. Weberman also served as president of the New York Financial Writers' Association.
